An opportunity for dance students, teachers, practitioners, youth dance group
members, disabled and non- disabled, to participate in a one off open session.
This workshop will form the final day of an inter-grated, inter-generational
Dance Residency with Artists Louise Katerega and Tom Clarke and Filmmaker
Sergio Cruz, as part of Activate’s Dance Generations Project.

Participants in the Dance Generations project will spend 3 days creating
movement and dance for the camera, leading to the creation of a dance film to
highlight and advocate for inte-grated and inter-generational dance work, and
dance in different health care settings. These groups will be working on
closed sessions during the week, but we are delighted to be able to open up a final
session to dancers throughout Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole. The session will
consist of a warm-up, then a workshop developing the dance ideas that have
evolved in the previous 3 days, including filming of that work. The film taken
in this session will contribute to the completed film, that will be shown in
public settings including dance film festivals. Participants must therefore be
happy to sign a media release form stating that their image can be used in
public broadcast.

‘GAME OF 2 ARFS’ – PERFORMANCE & PARTICIPATORY OPPORTUNITIES!

We are extremely pleased to announce that we have been awarded funding by the Arts Council West Midlands, with additional funding from Stoke-on-Trent City Council and RENEW for an exciting site-specific inter-generational project entitled ‘A Game of 2 Arfs’. It will take FRONTLINEdance into new areas of work, with a range of artists and partners including Staffordshire Dance Collective, Rotten Park Road Theatre Company and Stoke on Trent  Cultural Development Team.

A ‘Game of 2 Arfs’ will see the community of Stoke engaged as participants and audiences in a professional dance performance with poetry and theatre.  This contemporary dance event will take place in public spaces in the City Centre, Stoke on Trent (Hanley) specifically, Gala Bingo and the Potteries Shopping Centre and Market Hall.   We will take inspiration from the two environments and histories of the places past and present, and through this project hope to engage a greater number of people participating in and also watching dance and the arts; this is where you can get involved!  We are looking for bmx’ers, free runners, skaters, breakdancers and wheelchair users to create a short piece with Artistic Director Rachael Lines.

We are also looking for 15-80yr olds to make an inter-generational piece, taster sessions will take place on the 12th and 19th May at J. Block, Stoke-on-Trent College, Moorland Road, Burslem, 7-8.30pm.  NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY, just come and join in the fun and be involved in this exciting event.

Volunteers are also needed to help out throughout and just on the performance day.

AXIS Dance Company is hosting it’s 3rd Summer Intensive August 3 – 10, 2008 at the Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts, Oakland, CA.  AXIS and Eric Kupers of the CSUEB Dance Department will teach physically integrated contact improvisation, technique, choreography, performance, as well as site-specific dance.  The intensive will culminate with an informal performance by workshop attendees and faculty.

People ages 18 and up, of all dance levels and experience, with and without physical disabilities are invited to attend. All participants will be selected through an application process. Please download and send a completed application form AND resume or curriculum vitae of dance, theater, and/or athletic experience to the AXIS office at 1428 Alice Street, Ste. 200, Oakland, CA 94612 by the postmark deadline of June 15th.

Tuition for the workshop is $500. Limited full and partial scholarships will be made available. To apply for a full or partial scholarship participants should submit a letter of interest including a statement of financial need to accompany their application.

Tuition does not include the cost of accommodations. AXIS is reserving a block of hotel rooms in Oakland at a competitive room rate. We will make hotel information available to workshop registrants in early July. AXIS will make every effort to assist people in finding affordable accommodations including providing registrants with contact information of others who may wish to share a room for the length of the summer intensive.

Calling aspiring dance critics interested in study at Master’s level. The University of Chichester is running a Master’s module in Dance Writing and Criticism at Sadler’s Wells on selected Friday evenings between April and July, and during the day on some Saturdays in Chichester.  If you are interested, why not book a place on the introductory evening at Sadler’s Wells on Friday 4 April at 7pm?

B.C. Buds: a Spring Arts Fair

The Firehall Arts Centre is pleased to announce the fourth annual B.C. Buds:
A Spring Arts Fair to be held May 16th thru 18th, 2008 at the Firehall.
For three days in May, the Firehall will present theatre, dance, music and
interdisciplinary artists in performances which will take place in the theatre, on the
outdoor stage, in the courtyard, studio, stairwells, offices and the many nooks and
crannies of the heritage arts centre.
BC Buds provides an opportunity for artists to try out new works and re-cultivate existing works while giving audiences an opportunity to explore and experience the arts in informal and unorthodox settings. All performances will be free.
B.C. Buds will pay a fee to artists for their work and will provide travel and
accommodation for out of town artists. A programming committee will work with
those applicants selected to determine the best on site location for their proposed
work.

What kinds of work are we in search of?
•    Works from all performing arts disciplines will be considered.
•    Works in length from five minutes to twenty minutes.
•    Works that can be staged in non-traditional ways in non-traditional
theatrical locations. For example: stairwells, offices, outdoor courtyard
area, on the fire pole.
•    Some programming suitable for children / families

Who can apply?
Applicants must be residents of British Columbia and must be actively pursuing a
Professional career in their artistic discipline. Individuals, companies, collectives
are all eligible to apply.
