Community Dance Artist (Older People)

For the past 20 years, Green Candle Dance Company has been working for and with older people in dance. Now, with the help of a three year award from City Bridge Trust, they are able to set up a new post with responsibility for this hugely important and growing area of the company’s work.
The post will involve practical teaching, facilitating and choreographing dance with older people within a range of settings, as well as fostering, developing and managing new and existing projects and partnerships.
Employment details:
Part time: 3 days per week (21 hours per week)
Dates: starting 1 April 2008 (or as soon after this as possible)
Salary: up to £23,500 (depending on skills and experience)
Holiday: 25 days paid holiday per annum in addition to Bank Holidays
They are looking for a male or female dance artist who has:
- completed professional training in contemporary dance, to degree-level or equivalent – (additional experience of popular or non-western dance forms an advantage)
- have at least 2 years regular teaching experience leading dance with both active and frail older people
- excellent teaching ability with older adults (60+) of diverse abilities and backgrounds
- has strong project leadership and project management skills
- sound and up-to-date awareness of the protection of vulnerable adults and children, equal opportunities, health and safety and safe dance practice
- good office and IT skills and a good standard of literacy including the ability to write reports
- good communication and advocacy skills
- a strong commitment to Equal Opportunities and community dance practice
- a warm, cheerful and flexible disposition and highly professional attitude
